Special abilities[]
An alhoon has most of the usual undead immunities, specifically to critical hits, disease, level drain, ability drain, mind-affecting spells, paralysis, poison, and sneak attacks. However, this creature does not have the usual undead immunity to death magic. (Probably a bug.)
The attacks of an alhoon penetrate damage reduction as a +8 weapon. In addition, this creature has use of an aura of fear once per day, psionic charm monster and psionic inertial barrier each twice per day, psionic mass concussion four times per day, and psionic mind blast and psionic mind blast 10m radius each eight times per day.
An alhoon is a level 8 sorcerer who knows the following spells.
Level 0 | acid splash, electric jolt, flare, ray of frost | 6 castings |
---|---|---|
Level 1 | burning hands, color spray, grease, magic missile, sleep | 8 castings |
Level 2 | invisibility, lesser dispel, Melf's acid arrow | 8 castings |
Level 3 | fireball, haste | 6 castings |
Level 4 | Isaac's lesser missile storm | 4 castings |
If in combat with a creature of a playable race who is neither petrified nor polymorphed, but is disabled, an alhoon will move to be 1.5 meters from that creature and use its extract brain ability. For this check, being disabled means being stunned or paralyzed, and 30% of the time a dazed creature is also considered disabled. There are two quirks (bugs) associated with this check. First, a creature of the Tiefling subrace (case sensitive) is treated as being a disabled creature of a playable race unless petrified. (This was probably an attempt to account for Valen Shadowbreath in the Hordes of the Underdark campaign, but not intended to bypass the disabled check.) Second, a creature subject to a spell failure effect (not spell failure from worn equipment) is considered disabled. (Instead of spell failure, the intent was to detect the visual effect associated with being paralyzed, but this was incorrectly implemented.) Tieflings who are polymorphed or not actually disabled, and 70% of the (otherwise not disabled) dazed creatures who are selected for brain extraction, are given a reprieve from brain extraction and are instead subjected to a psionic mind blast that does not count against the daily limit. (So the brain of a dazed creature is extracted only 9% of the time.)
