Articles should almost never link to categories. Even if you think a broken link should be changed into a link to a category, it's more likely that the page really is a wanted page. (Yes, some dead links are just poorly formed, but many are in fact pages that are waiting for someone to create them.) Well, you are right that there's no need for an article called "negative effect" since "negative" is clear enough, and there is already an article called effect.
