Bugged scroll version[]

The scroll form of this spell appears to be bugged in that although the spell can be cast by a cleric via spellbook, the scroll version is not usable by cleric (only sorc/wiz/bard). So a cleric with Scribe Scroll feat can generate a Remove Curse scroll which it cannot use except via UMD, if applicable. However, there is no such bug in crafting a wand with this spell (haven't tried brewing a potion yet but I suspect that since it would not be a standard resource item, the potion would be created via scripting rather than by blueprint... just guessing). If it was an intentional variant... why? And also, if so, are there any other spells that fall into this category? --Iconclast 18:49, December 28, 2011 (UTC)

The variant is not intentional. The scribe scroll feat just uses the standard scroll blueprints, while the brew potion and craft wand create and add properties to an item blueprint that is without properties. Any flukes for scrolls are because of the default scroll being used. WhiZard 19:33, December 28, 2011 (UTC)
I see. So do you think an applicable note on Remove Curse in the table of spells in the Scribe scroll feat article would be warranted? ... something to indicate that although the scroll can be scribed by a cleric, it cannot be used by one. Otherwise they will waste gold and experience to learn this fact for themselves, possibly a few times if they suspect it was just a random gliche of the game. This is a different consequence than other anomalies like War Cry and Undeath to death which will not result in the loss of in-game "learning" expense. --Iconclast 23:33, December 28, 2011 (UTC)
I looked through a few default scrolls and found other similar issues, such as Owl's Wisdom scroll excludes clerics, and the silence scroll excludes bards (though bards can UMD). I think there are a lot more, though, so if someone has time, adding an exclusion column to the spell scrolls might be a good idea. WhiZard 02:24, December 29, 2011 (UTC)
  • Hmmm. And here I assumed I had found a rare exception. :S
That was a potential issue that was never addressed when we compiled the original table last year, limiting the checking only to which classes could create the scrolls, not use them. I'll take up the gauntlet you've been wearing, add the few you've found to Remove Curse and scrub the balance. At least the info on the table will make it easier to cross-check. I'll be getting back via the Talk:Scribe_scroll article with as comprehensive a list as possible. We can decide if there are enough of them to warrant formatting an additional column at that point, I suppose. --Iconclast 13:49, December 29, 2011 (UTC)
