- Interestingly, although this creature is a denizen of the lower planes, it is categorized as a member of the undead in Neverwinter Nights, not as an outsider, most probably due to its resemblance to the undead Shadow.
- A summoned Shadow Fiend has a much higher dexterity than its more mundane cousins.
- The strength attack of the shadow fiend is a special attack that the shadow fiend will use in lieu of its regular attack (though knocking down a shadow fiend can often cause it to resort to its normal claw/bite attacks). If this touch attack is successful, it will deal 1d6 strength damage. At difficulty settings of "hardcore" or higher, this will kill the target if the target's current strength is not more than the strength damage.
