LoME

From NWNWiki

LoME (Lords of Middle Earth) was a persistent world loosely based on Arda the Tolkien world of Middle Earth.

The eldar (elves), edain (men), dwarven and the orc kin were all here, as well as the occasional hobbit, the Nazgul, and Sauron himself. The timeline was in the Third Age, prior to Bilbo leaving the Shire. Names from Tolkien's books are reserved. There had been four DMs in different timezones, with the possibility of more being added as needed.

[edit] Gameplay

Good and evil start in different areas. PvP is rule limited, but permitted.

Player characters (PCs) have ten lives (soul runes). When they are gone, that PC is permanently dead. Every five levels after 10 (starting at 15) a character gets a soul rune. However, the total number of runes can never be more than ten.

Characters start at level 3 and are encouraged to journey in parties or train locally until level 10. It is a tough world — and death can be swift — even in Bree (or Dol Goldur).

Guilds, troops, and siege equipment are available, and there are over 200 areas to explore.

[edit] Critique

Note: This section may contain unsubstantiated information, and may have been compiled by biased parties.

The server is geared towards hack-and-slash, but amazingly many active players tend to show good very good role playing.

[edit] Noteworthy

This server was built by Olander and still has his scripts which support a number of non-standard items.

  • PC-controllable NPCs ("troops"); available only through guilds.
  • Class-specific additional menus (e.g. scrying for mages; casing marks for rogues, etc.).
