Hell hounds are aggressive, fire-breathing canines brought to the Prime Material Plane from the depths of the Abyss. Always a danger to be around, but they are loyal to their masters.
This eerie dog is quick and eventually gains the ability to spew cones of flames from its crimson jaws.

Hell hound familiars have 100% immunity to fire damage, but 50% vulnerability to cold damage. They are also immune to mind-affecting spells and have spell resistance that increases with their master's level. They use their hell hound fire breath a number of times per day dependent on their master's level, and at later levels their natural weapon (a bite) gets an enhancement bonus. The base damage for the bite improves to 1d10 at master level 20, and was intended to improve to 1d12 at master level 35, then to 2d10 at 40, but due to a bug, hell hound familiars have no creature weapon at these levels and resort to unarmed strikes with a base damage of 1d3 (and no enhancement bonus).

The enhancement bonus was intended to increase to +5 at master level 35.

- The master level 13 and 14 versions of this familiar can use their fire breath only twice per day. (Probably a bug.)
- The master level 34 to 40 versions of this familiar are bugged in that they have no creature weapon and must fight unarmed. This means they lose their enhancement bonus, deal less base damage, and provoke attacks of opportunity.
- A fix for this bug is available here.
- This familiar has one level more than its master until master level 40. (The master level 40 version is identical to the master level 39 version.) References to "level" with regards to this familiar typically mean "master level".
