The epic rules are the means by which a character continues his or her adventuring career. Added in Hordes of the Underdark, these rules cover levels 21 to 40.

[edit] Epic character

Epic character

Characters become epic characters once they have gained 21 levels. At this point any feats can be taken from the epic feats list.

e.g. A character with 10 rogue, 10 barbarian and 1 assassin level is an epic character.

[edit] Epic class

To become epic with a specific class the character must have 21 levels for a base class, or 11 levels for a prestige class. However, the 11th level of a prestige class cannot be taken unless the character has a total of 20 levels already.

e.g. A character with 10 rogue, 10 barbarian and 1 assassin level has no epic classes, but a character with 21 rogue and 1 assassin level is an epic rogue.

Harper scouts are only able to attain five levels and may never become epic in the Harper scout class.

[edit] Epic bonus feats

Epic classes gain regular bonus epic feats which can be selected from a list specific to that class.

e.g. Upon reaching 23 levels of ranger a character may select an epic feat from the epic ranger bonus list.

If a class has bonus feats pre-epic then it will be possible to select epic feats if the character as a whole is epic.

e.g. A character with 9 levels of ranger but a total of 21 levels. When selecting a 10th level of ranger, the character will be able to choose an epic feat from the epic ranger feat list in addition to the usual favored enemy feat options.
