Damage type

The term damage type refers to the forms by which damage to creatures and PCs can occur.
Some damage types are purely physical (ie bludgeoning, slashing, piercing), others are elemental (ie acid, cold, electrical, fire), some are energy related (ie sonic, positive, negative), and others are related to magic (ie divine, and magical).
When taking damage, it is lowered by effects in the following order:
Thus damage immunity is applied before resistance which is in turn applied before reduction before the character takes the actual damage. One exception to this rule is that the bonus damage from a non-physical damage increase effect is not affected by any form of immunity or resistance.
