Ability score loss

From NWNWiki

Some attacks reduce the opponent's score in one or more abilities. This loss can be temporary (ability damage) or permanent (ability drain).

While any loss is debilitating, losing all points in an ability score can be devastating - (see relevant ability).

Ability scores can be restored either by visiting the local healer or using scrolls of Greater Restoration.

Additionally, the cleric spell negative energy protection offers immunity to ability point damage as one of its benefits.

[edit] Notes

  • If a prepared spellcaster suffers a loss from the ability score that grants bonus spells per day they may lose memorised spell slots. Any memorised spells in these slots will be lost and cannot be recovered without returning them to their slots and resting.
  • If a spontaneous spellcaster suffers a loss from the ability score that grants bonus spells per day they may lose some of their spells for that day. If they then regain their previous ability score then the process can be repeated, and it is possible for a character to lose all their spells for a day in this manner without casting any spells or having their ability score drop below the minimum required to cast spells.
